Controlling

A controlling PMO would provide the same items as a supportive PMO, but they would take it several steps further. They may be responsible for working with a variety of different projects or programs and would make sure that the benefits to the organization are managed through project work. Just as the title suggests, a controlling PMO may even be setting deliverables and key performance indicators. I like to think of a controlling PMO like the vice principal in a high school who has some power but not all of it. They can still suspend you, however, for running in the hall.
